Pakistan’s Under-19 cricket team will open its ICC Under-19 World Cup campaign on January 16, meeting England at the Takashinga Sports Club in Harare, the Pakistan Cricket Board said.
Tournament Details and Group Stage
The tournament, which runs from January 15 to February 6, is being held in Zimbabwe and Namibia and features 16 teams. Pakistan have been placed in a group that also includes Scotland and host nation Zimbabwe, with all three of their group matches scheduled to be played in Harare.
After facing England, Pakistan will play Scotland on January 19 and Zimbabwe on January 22. Teams advancing from the group stage will move on to the Super Six round, to be played later in Harare and Bulawayo, before the knockout phase.
Pakistan’s Past Performance
Pakistan enter the tournament after a successful stretch at the Under-19 level, having won the Asia Cup in Dubai and a recent tri-series in Zimbabwe. The team has lifted the Under-19 World Cup trophy twice before, in 2004 and 2006.
Warm-Up Matches
In the lead-up to the competition, Pakistan played two warm-up matches. One, against Bangladesh, was abandoned due to weather, while Pakistan went on to defeat the United States in their second outing.
Squad Details
The squad is captained by Farhan Yousaf. Ali Raza, a right-arm fast bowler, is the only player in the group with experience from the previous edition of the Under-19 World Cup.
The final of the tournament is scheduled to be played in Harare on February 6.
