Rivalry between Beijing and Washington is a familiar story. The sole cause of the ban on TikTok in the United States was its parent company, ByteDance. As this is a Chinese company, and as per China’s law, companies have to share users’ personal information with the government. The United States is concerned about the access to the personal information of its citizens by the Chinese government.

As per the Reuters report, to avert the American ban, a new company has been created, which is named TikTok USDS Joint Venture. The agreement was finalized by ByteDance and TikTok’s owner, in which 80.1% of shares will be owned by the US and its allied investors, like Oracle, Abu Dhabi’s MGX, and Silver Lake, a private equity firm, and the remaining 19.9% of shares will be owned by ByteDance.

According to ByteDance:

The new company is responsible for keeping US users’ information safe through data privacy and cybersecurity measures.

However, the process and working of how this data will be stored are not shared yet.

Data and national security are matters of concern for every government. As for the United States, the regulators are concerned about access to personal information of the users of any specific platform by a foreign government. Secondly, the algorithm controlled from another country can influence what people think or see.

Also, this can give access to sensitive information, which might raise security concerns. To overcome these concerns, it was planned that mostly American leadership would be in charge of the company, that user data would be stored, and algorithms would be managed and retained in the U.S.

As both countries hold a strong hold across the globe. For users, they will be able to see their favorite content and content creators. As for the creators’ perspective, they will be able to generate more content, engage their audience, run their businesses, and gain financial stability. It is well evident that the U.S. officials are highly concerned about the regulations regarding foreign tech companies.

They have restricted the use of certain apps on government devices. The TikTok and joint venture will become a way forward for the other global tech companies. The companies need to abide by the strict laws, which will help them to run their businesses in the and achieve their goals.

Multiple Chinese companies are operating in the US market, such as Alibaba Group, Tencent, Baidu, Xiaomi, and more. This deal will show a pathway to global tech companies that they need to balance users’ rights, political realities, and local laws. The United States is a highly lucrative market, and companies must reorganize themselves and find a middle ground that will be beneficial for everyone.
