President Asif Ali Zardari met Major General (Retired) Khurram Sarfraz Khan in Islamabad on Tuesday. Khan is Pakistan’s ambassador-designate to Jordan. Officials said the meeting focused mainly on relations with Jordan and the regional situation.
The President said Pakistan’s ties with Jordan go back a long way and have stayed steady over the years. He talked about shared history and cultural links and said these matter when things in the region remain uncertain. He also appreciated Jordan’s support for Pakistan’s efforts related to peace and stability.
Palestine was also discussed during the meeting. Mr. Zardari repeated Pakistan’s position in support of the Palestinian people. He said Pakistan supports their right to self-determination and backs the idea of an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
Officials said the President expressed confidence in Khurram Sarfraz Khan and expects him to work on strengthening ties with Jordan. They said the meeting reflected Pakistan’s continued use of diplomacy to stay engaged with countries in the region.
