IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, referred to the reform push being led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The steps taken were not difficult but had become unavoidable also highlighting the Serious engagement with the reform process that has been shown by Pakistan, particularly in managing public finances, Georgieva said. Improved control over spending, she noted, has helped create room for allocating funds to areas linked with public welfare.
Some impact of these measures is now emerging, even though economic challenges remain. The progress seen so far, she added, reflects better implementation of commitments agreed under the IMF programme.
