Pakistan and Azerbaijan have agreed to work on their defence relations and strengthen them further, both countries are looking to expand their cooperation in security, training, and naval matters. The meeting took place at the Naval Headquarters in Islamabad where Admiral Naveed Ashraf who is the Chief of the Naval Staff met with Commander of Azerbaijan Naval Forces, Rear Admiral Shahin Mammadov.
The leaders talked about matters of mutual interest and regional maritime security. They discussed challenges in the seas, and different ways to cooperate more in training, and how both navies can coordinate in operations. Officials said these discussions are important because both countries want stronger ties in defence, especially in naval areas.
This visit will help to increase collaboration and understanding between the two navies and it also shows the commitment of both countries to continue regular exchanges. A briefing was given to the visiting commander on Pakistan Navy’s ongoing projects which included modernization and strategic initiatives. The two countries have a long history of brotherly relations and naval cooperation has been a major part of it.
Earlier, when Rear Admiral Mammadov arrived at the Naval Headquarters he was received by Admiral Naveed Ashraf. A smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan Navy presented a Guard of Honour. The commander also laid a floral wreath at the Shuhada Monument and this was to pay tribute to the martyrs and it reflects respect and tradition of the culture.
Training, Joint Exercises and Operational Coordination in Focus
This visit is a chance to explore new areas of cooperation and not just formal meetings, at the same time if real steps are taken they can strengthen defence relations in the long-run, both sides agreed. Training, joint exercises, operational coordination, and ways to make sure both navies are ready to support each other were discussed in the meeting.
This meeting is a part of continuing the long tradition of Pakistan-Azerbaijan friendship and it was important and timely. Whether all the plans turn into projects immediately or gradually will be seen. For now, the visit shows both sides want to work together, strengthen ties, and move step by step in building closer defence relations.
