Chairman of the Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani arrived in Phnom Penh today on an official visit to Cambodia. Officials are calling it important and also part of keeping relations good and friendly between Pakistan and Cambodia. This is not just a normal visit, it is official and important because both sides want to talk and understand each other.
Senior Cambodian parliamentary and government people, including Second Vice President of the Senate Dr Thun Vathana, received Mr.Chairman. They welcomed him formally, there were some greetings and talks, and officials said such receptions are important, it shows respect and good relations.
The Chairman of the Senate is coming with a delegation, parliamentary and advisory. This includes Senator Zarqa Suharwardy, Senator Abid Sher Ali, Senator Zamir Hussain Ghumro, and Misbah Khar, Adviser to the Chairman. Officials said they will meet Cambodian leaders, discuss things, attend meetings. Also, they will observe how parliament works there. Small discussions are important too, officials said, even informal ones, because they help in long term.
During this visit multiple topics will be discussed such as parliamentary cooperation, legislative exchanges, mutual interests, and ways to improve relations. Officials said this is a chance to understand each other’s practices. Also, it is good for friendship and learning from each other. The visit is stated as part of regular efforts because regular contact is good, and it helps relations.
Delegation will meet more leaders, attend meetings, talk about cooperation. For now, the arrival of Chairman Yousuf Gilani and the delegation shows Pakistan wants to engage with Cambodia. Officials are hopeful that it will lead to better understanding, stronger ties, even if things happen slowly, step by step, little by little.
