ISLAMABAD — Talks between Pakistan and Indonesia are taking place in Islamabad on Thursday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, officials said.
Pakistan is being represented by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar at the delegation level meeting. The Indonesian side is being led by Rosan Roeslani who is the Minister of Investment and Downstream Industry and also heads Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund Danantara.
Officials said the discussions are focused on trade and investment matters while both sides are talking about different ways to improve cooperation in these areas, the talks are described as comprehensive. Rosan Roeslani arrived in Islamabad late on Wednesday night, he is on an official visit to Pakistan. When he arrived at the airport he was received by senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Indonesia’s ambassador to Pakistan was also present.
Pakistan and Indonesia maintain diplomatic relations and have regular contact but there is still room to expand economic engagement. Trade volumes between the two countries remain limited despite the good political ties. The officials exchanged their views on different areas of cooperation and mutual interests. These include the investment opportunities and future partnerships, although right now no agreements have been announced the sources stated that the talks are ongoing and could lead to results. More meetings are expected to take place during this visit, no further detail was provided by the officials and the Foreign Office has not issued a detailed statement yet.
